The Koch Center in ActionMarch 8, 2007 | Lines form at the snack bar at 7:30 in the morning, as early birds wait for a cappuccino or latte, a grilled egg sandwich or a bagel. Sun streams into the building from the sides and filters down through the glass channels in the roof. A teacher leads a tentative greyhound across the polished cement floor and then settles her down on the carpet in the math office. Teachers sharing department offices check in with each other. The beginning of class is signaled by a melodious ring-tone. Another day at the Koch Center has begun.
In less than two weeks, this long-anticipated facility has become the focal point on campus, a natural gathering place for students, faculty and staff.
On the last Friday of winter term, cookies and "Koch-ko" were enjoyed there by the entire Deerfield community. The Green Cup Challenge dance was held there last weekend. Students are not only amazed by the building, but appreciative of the wonderful views across campus from the Koch Center. Old and new meet gracefully in this way.
